A word from Barth

“He Himself is the one who establishes and maintains and directs the community which has received it and upon which it is laid. He Himself is the strength of its defense and its offensive. He Himself is the hope of freedom and enlightenment for the many who have not yet received and accepted it. He Himself above all is the comfort, and the restlessness, and yet also uplifting power in the weakness of its service. In a word, the Christian message lives as such by and to the One who at its heart bears the name of Jesus Christ.” -Church Dogmatics IV.1, pg. 17-1815
